November Newsletter

From The Director:

We all know that when the time changes and we "fall back", the weather turns colder and the holidays approach quickly! I would like to remind parents once again that even though there is a nip in the air, we do still take the children outside when we are able to. The fresh air is wonderful! Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor play or walks. This means warm coats, hats, and mittens! It may be easy to overlook when you are just running them from the car to the inside. When it comes time for outdoor play, your child will not be able to be with their class if they are not dressed appropriately. I would also like to remind parents of the security of our building. We have a security system in place for the safety of our children as well as the staff. In recent weeks, several strangers have been allowed into the building by families who are leaving and allowing them in. Please do not allow anyone into the building that you do not know with certainty is an enrolled parent. I appreciate your attention to this very important matter! Care-A-Lot is having a fall fundraiser with Save-Around. The Buffalo 2012 coupon books will be available for sale beginning November 7 and running until November 18. We are hoping to raise funds to expand our CD collection and get new CD players for the classrooms. Music touches the soul!

We are having a special visitor join us on Wednesday, November 9th! The University of Pediatric Dentistry will be joining us for a presentation on good dental hygiene and good food choices! We are excited and look forward to that!

Each month, the staff is planning a special fun day in which everyone can participate. Our next fun day will be on Friday, November 25 (the day after Thanksgiving). It will be a Pajama Day! Children and staff alike are encouraged to participate in the fun!

We can't believe that fall is almost over! Our theme for November is "My Family". We will be putting together family collages for each child, so please start gathering your family photos to bring in! Fall evaluations are complete. Please feel free to set up a date and time to meet and discuss them. Also, please be on the lookout for info about our upcoming center-wide event - pajama day!

TODDLER 1
November is our month to be thankful! We will be talking about being thankful for our families…the weather…not so much!

All this month we will be talking about our families. Who is in our family? Who lives with us? Do we have pets? What color is our house?

We will also be learning about animal families and where they live. Cats and kittens, dogs and puppies, ducks and ducklings…what are their houses called and where do they live? We will have a favorite stuffed animal day during this week and have a picnic with them too!

Of course, we will be talking about what it means to be thankful and why we are thankful for our families. I hope that my friends will understand this! There will be turkeys coming home and special Thanksgiving centerpieces!

Please remember that we still go outside when the weather permits. All of my friends need warm coats with hats or hoods, and gloves so we can get some fresh air! Also, please check their extra clothes to make sure they are for cold weather.

We would like to wish a very happy 2nd birthday to Olivia, Henry, and Evelin!

TODDLER 2
Brrrr….the cold weather is approach- ing closer every day! To make us feel warm and fuzzy, we are going to be talking about our families. Week #1 is "Festival of Families". We are going to celebrate our families and every part of them! In Circle Time, we are going to sing "Where is Thumbkin?" with family members. We are going to play house with babies and dishes and make homes with our blocks. Please bring in a family picture or two for us to put up and enjoy. Our story for this week is " The Family Book" by Todd Parr. Week #2 is "Just Ducky". Our story for this week is "Have You Seen My Duckling?" by Nancy Tafuri. The children and I will sing songs about ducks like "Five Little Ducks". We will talk about our homes and how they are the same or different from an animal's home. We will create art masterpieces with our fingers, paint and brushes, crayons, chalk, glue, and much more! Week #3 is "Marvelous Moms". Our story for this week is "My Mom" by Antony Browne. Let's talk about our special mom this week. We will play "Mommy, May I?" and maybe make a special surprise for Mom. Week #4 is "Thankful for Families". With Thanksgiving coming soon, we will share things we are thankful for, especially our families. Our story for this last week of the month is "Grandmother and I" by Helen Buckley. The children will make Monkey Bread and act like little turkeys when they walk (just being silly!). We will make turkeys with our feet and have lots of fun with more activities. Keep working on those large and fine motor skills at home!

PRESCHOOL 1
We have so much to be thankful for in the month of November, especially our families, which we will be focusing on in our first week of November. Knowing that all families vary from home to home, we will discuss the similarities and differences between our family and our friends' families. Week 2 in November, we will be moving on to a week filled with yummy fruits and veggies from our cornucopia. We will be making collages of our favorites! Of course, it wouldn't be Thanksgiving without the Pilgrims! Miss Mary will bring in her collection of Lincoln Logs to share, so we can make Pilgrim cabins together! Last, but not least, we will be finishing up the month with learning about animal homes and natural habitats. We will have a Pajama Day the day after Thanksgiving on November 25th. Speaking of being thankful…thank you to the parents of the preschoolers for giving us teachers the privilege of caring for and teaching your children each day!
Miss Mary

PRESCHOOL 2
November is guaranteed to be an exciting time for Preschool Two! The first week of November, we will be learning about community helpers and finding out who we admire the most. Then we will be traveling to the Wild West and learning how to be a real cowboy or cowgirl. All of that sheriff's work can sure stir up an appetite, but don't worry! Tom the Turkey is here! Our third week in November will be full of fall fun and big appetites! Once we have regained our strength, Preschool Two will be assisting some amazing community helpers such as Spiderman and Batman. Find your best disguises because it's time to become a superhero! If all of this wasn't enough excitement, we will be welcoming our new friend Osvaldo to our class!
Miss Sarah & Miss Kari

School Age
The schoolagers will be busy completing homework and playing outside as much as possible! During the school holidays, we will welcome back some old friends that were with us all summer! This month, we have Election Day, veteran's Day and the day after Thanksgiving! We look forward to that!
