December 2011

From The Director:I can't believe it is Christmas time already. This is my favorite time of year. I love to see all the decorations and smell all the yummy cakes, cookies and candies.

I would first like to thank everyone who helped make our family foods festival a success. We had lots of yummy dishes but I would say that the Mac and Cheese was a kid favorite.

This is the time of year that all the school holiday programs begin to take place and I know the kids have been working so hard on our annual Christmas pageant. It will be held on Thursday December 15th at 6:30pm. The groups performing will be the toddlers, both preschools and the school age room. I hope to see you all there.

This is the time of year that we usually get a visit from the man up north. The kids love when Santa comes to visit. Hopefully he has time in his busy schedule to stop in. Watch for time and date to follow.

I would like to wish all the families here at Care-A-Lot a wonderful Holiday Season.

Tidings to you, Miss Karen

Dates To Remember in December:

NURSERY 1 - Wow, November just flew by didn't it? The family foods festival was a success! Can't wait to see those cookbooks.

What a great time to tap into our sensory skills. December is filled with lots of new smells, colors, sounds and textures. We'll be getting into some holiday decorating and exploring the wonderful SNOW! We'll hang some snowflakes, go outside to play and of course bring some snow inside for the water table. We'll have lots of bells to shake and we'll clap while singing "We wish you a Merry Christmas".

We welcome Anthony and Andrew to our classroom this month. I would also like to wish Rocco a Happy 1st Birthday on the 4th.

Merry Christmas from our family to yours! Miss Tina

NURSERY 2 - Wow, can you believe it's December already? Time sure flies when you're having as much fun as we are in the nursery 2 room. We have sure taking a liking to the new things Miss Sarah has brought in. We love to climb through the new tunnel and watch the balls scoot around on the toy with the lights and sounds. It sure makes us laugh.

This month is all about colors. Each week will discuss a different color. We will do an art activity with that color, read stories about colors and we may even dress in that color. By the end of the month it will be so pretty and colorful in our room. This month also brings us Christmas. We will be incorporating that into our curriculum as well. We will be making ornaments for our tree, decorations for our houses and even a surprise for under the tree for mom and dad.

Now is a good time to restock cubbies. We will need bigger and warmer clothes, hats, gloves, boots and snow pants. We love to play outside and can't wait for the snow to come so we can do so.

Merry Christmas! Miss Sarah

TODDLER - How quickly November comes and goes! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Christmas is just around the corner. We will be participating in the annual Christmas pageant held on December 15th at 6:30pm. Hope to see everyone there. We have been practicing and everyone is very excited.

This month's curriculum is "In the Forest". Our first week is "let it snow". We will do some crafts about Christmas mice, try to paint with snow (glue & paint) and much much more. The second week is "Forever Green". We will make chains for our Christmas tree out of fruit loops, make our own Christmas trees and keep practicing for our pageant. We are also going to be in the process of making our parent gifts! Shh… it's a surprise! The third week is all our "Christmas Time". This week mainly consists of reindeer, Santa, snow and anything related to Christmas. We will sing Christmas Carols; make crafts and some food and maybe even cookies. Great Fun! The last week of December we will be just having fun to enjoy the holiday season! We will have a small Christmas party on December 22nd. Feel free to bring in a snack for the class.

Also, please be sure your child has warmer clothes, a hat and mittens in their cubby. We still like to take walks and play outside weather permitting

Happy Holidays, Miss Dawn

PRESCHOOL 1 - Tis the season for learning! This month's curriculum in the wonderful world of Preschool One is called millions of snowflakes. Our first week's unit is about the snowy days of December. We'll warm up our classroom with a well knitted collection of hat themed centers as well as practicing putting on our own snow clothes! Let's get zipped up into some fun! Week two's unit is called It's snowing! our activities will include ornament making and snow flake counting. Hopefully some snow will come so we can make snowmen and practice our small, medium and large recognition of shapes. Finally we will have a unit on Evergreen Trees and good old Christmas fun! We will deck the halls with lots of learning…fa la la la la. What an exciting time of year.

December 15th will be our annual holiday pageant. Please dress to impress and be here by 6:15pm so we can prepare. Preschool one will be performing two songs. Hope to see you there.

Ho, Ho, Ho, Miss Bailey

PRESCHOOL 2 - I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Thank you for all the delicious food that was brought in for our Annual Family Foods Festival. Many of the children even tried some new foods.

This month's curriculum is the ABC's of Christmas. Although, we have already started our letter recognition and writing, we will be recapping those we know and working on those we don't. Each letter will be accompanied by a little craft and writing. The kids are doing wonderfully with their writing and some know almost all their letters. Shortly after the New Year we will be working on our address and phone number. So, if changes are necessary, please get them to Miss Karen or myself. We do want the kids learning the correct address and phone number. This month will be a busy one with lots of crafts and projects relevant to the ABC's of Christmas. We will also be learning a little about Hanukkah and Kwanza. This will show the kids how other cultures celebrate. We have been and will be working hard on our Christmas performance for our Annual Christmas Pageant which will take place on December 15th at 6:30pm. So, please mark your calendar. Holiday decorating will also be in the works, so plan on lots of, coloring, cutting, painting, gluing and glittering. Ah-yes glittering. And finally our class holiday party will be on Friday December 22nd. As always snacks are welcome but not necessary.

Thank You and Happy Holidays, Miss Dianne

School Age-
- Merry Christmas. We had a lot of fun during our Thanksgiving break. We worked on some decorations for our room and even a few for home. We also put a lot of heart into a beautiful surprise we made for the parents. We have also been working very hard on a song that we will be performing in the Christmas pageant. I hope you can all make it. During our Christmas break we will be working on some winter projects and activities. The kids will be having such a good time that they won't even know they are learning. I hope everyone enjoys their holiday time with family and friends.

Seasons Greetings, Miss Karen
