June 2010

From The Director:
June brings sunshine, warm weather and plenty of outdoor fun! Please remember to provide us with sunscreen, a bathing suit, a towel and water shoes for outdoor play. Your child must also have sneakers to participate with the bikes and outdoor play equipment.

Please join me in welcoming new staff: Miss Sarah is our new nursery teacher. She is very excited to be a part of our staff and looks forward to getting to know our babies and helping them to learn and grow. Miss Ashley and Miss Lauren have joined our staff in the afternoons and float to the classrooms where they are most needed. They are also excited to be here and look forward to having fun with the kids.

NURSERY 1 - Welcome to Nursery 1! June is the month for outdoor exploration. We will be learning about the sun, clouds, raindrops, and all the different flowers and plants found outdoors. On our daily walks outdoors, we will be collecting small pieces of nature to examine in the classroom. We will use our findings to create beautiful, creative pieces of art as well as sensory development purposes. We will create a texture board that allows all of the children to examine a variety of textures and colors.

Since our room has a variety of ages with specific developmental goals, we will also be working on animal sounds, identifying animals, locating body parts. For example, "Where are my eyes?" and "Where are your eyes?" This will be a very exciting and challenging month for all of the children in Nursery 1. I will be working with each of the children to ensure they are having fun as well as being challenged by the classroom curriculum.

Parents, please make sure your child has one or two extra changes of clothes as well as sun block because we will be spending a lot of time outside this month. I will also be introducing sign language to the class. Each month we will work on one or two signs. Thank you!

TODDLERS -

We finally feel that summer is here! Please remember sunscreen and sneakers for your child. We play outside a lot. If you wish to bring in a reuseable water bottle, it will be helpful.

Our shape of the month is the triangle and our color of the month is red (like the big top). That leads us to the theme of the month, which is "Under the Big Top". The children will be learning about the many acts and performances of circus people and animals. Week 1 is "Clowning Around". Some of our activities include making clown masks, playing "Monkey, Monkey, Clown" and reading "Dumbo". Week 2 is "Trained Animals". We will be learning about circus animals, feather painting Dumbo, reading the book "The Circus" and walking like elephants, lions and seals. Week 3 is "Acrobats in the Sky". Someactivities include making acrobats on strings, talking about the different performers at the circus and we will be reading "ABC Time". The last week of June is "Peanut Parade". We will be painting with peanuts, making a circus train, and reading "Little People Number Circus 1,2,3". Happy June!

PRESCHOOL 1 & 2-

Yeah! Summer is here! We will be outside as much as possible, so it is very important that your child is wearing sneakers and has sunscreen. To help keep cool in the heat and sun, we will provide outside water play for your child. If you would like your child to participate, they will need to have water shoes and a swimming suit.

In the curriculum this month, we will be focusing on seeds, flowers, growing, and grass. As we are learning about seeds, flowers, and growing, we will be expanding our classroom garden and going on nature walks. It's going to be a great month!

SCHOOL AGE-

The schoolagers are busy working on homework and making different projects to decorate the classroom. Homework and homework skills are worked on every day in the schoolage room! We will also be getting outside as much as possible while the weather is nice. Miss Ashley and Miss Lauren help with the schoolagers now. We are on the final countdown to being out of school and on summer vacation!
